Supported protocols
More than 40 protocol adapters
From PLCs and meters to upstream systems and AV gear. Pick a protocol, enter address, port and period; each adapter runs on its own lane so a silent device never delays the rest.
PLC · Field devices
PLCs and controllers
As master, LinkVion reads and writes devices. As slave, it stands in as a device and serves values to an upstream PLC or HMI.
| Protocol | Models · framing | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modbus | TCP · RTU · ASCII | Master · slave | Batch reads for many tags; data type, word order and unit ID settings. |
| Mitsubishi MC protocol | Q · iQ-R · iQ-F | Master · slave | 10,000 words per cycle in 16 ms (CM4 loopback). |
| Mitsubishi SLMP | 3E · 4E (binary, ASCII) | ||
| LS XGT · XGI | Master · slave | ||
| Siemens S7 | S7-300 · 400 · 1200 · 1500 | Master · slave | |
| Omron FINS | CS · CJ · NJ · NX | Master · slave | |
| Keyence KV | KV-5000 · 7500 · 8000 | Master · slave | |
| Panasonic MEWTOCOL | FP-X · FP7 | Master · slave | |
| CIMON PLC | Master · slave | ||
| EtherNet/IP | CIP scanner · adapter | Master · slave | In the LinkVion Box (CM4) package. |
| DNP3 | Master | Remote monitoring for power and water. | |
| IEC 60870-5-104 | Master · slave | ||
| BACnet/IP | Client | Not yet field-verified; not in the LinkVion Box package. |

Upstream and cloud integration
| Protocol | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| OPC UA | Client · server | The server publishes tags as nodes with certificates, trust list, users and per-node permissions. The client reads numeric and boolean nodes. |
| MQTT 3.1.1 · 5 | Subscribe · publish properties | Choose MQTT 5 per connection (user properties, will, retained messages, diagnostics). |
| REST API | Read · write · live stream | Tag read and write, settings, live value stream (SSE, authenticated). |
| Web requests | HTTP | Call external REST/HTTP APIs; admin-configured with an allow list. |
| CoAP | Client · server | |
| Kafka · ZeroMQ | Receive | |
| SNMP | Manager | |
| SNTP | Client · server | Sync the device clock and serve time to field devices. |
| Email · Telegram | Send notices | Choose channels per alarm rule. Email uses SMTPS or STARTTLS with certificate checks; Telegram can also be sent from scripts (release after 0.1.0.24). |
| MCP | Server | External AI agents use tags, alarms, settings and screen design as tools, within a configured scope. |
AV · Lighting · instruments
Power, lighting, show control, cameras
Exhibitions, landscape lighting and control rooms: devices beyond PLCs use the same tags.
| Protocol · device | What it does |
|---|---|
| PJLink | Projector and display power, input, mute, lamp hours, errors |
| Wake-on-LAN | Wake PCs and displays |
| SNMP PDU · display templates | Outlet control, display control templates |
| Art-Net 4 · sACN (E1.31) | Lighting output at 44 Hz: fixture profiles, patch, scenes, fades, cues. Art-Net input merge |
| OSC | Receive (address pattern → tag), send (tag → address), allow list |
| Cameras | IP, USB, RTSP (H.264), depending on platform; up to 6 RTSP cameras on the LinkVion Box |
| SCPI | Standard instrument commands |
| Tower lamps | Signal tower control |
Power, lighting and OSC were tested against simulators; field verification with real equipment is still to come.
Not on the list?
Two ways to add a protocol without code
- Declarative adapter — one spec file (meta.json) adds a protocol to the connection list without rebuilding the gateway.
- User-defined protocol — define requests and replies in a command table, or start from a template.
- The connection list shows as available only the packages actually installed (this can differ by platform).
